Your child’s wellbeing and development is paramount to each and every one of us at Churchill North Primary School.
Teachers at this school have high expectations for all students and work collaboratively within Professional Learning Communities to support students in achieving a minimum of 12-months growth in all areas of the curriculum.
The school has developed and will continue to develop strong communication between home and school, as we strongly believe in the importance of home /school partnerships in order to best support your child/ren. If your child has learning needs or requires support to regulate their behaviour, we will develop plans with you to ensure that your child’s needs are met and give you termly updates on the progress of these plans.
At CNPS we use the Berry Street model to support student wellbeing and engagement. This ensures that teachers have positive self-regard for all students, and provides students with a predictable structure to each day, starting with circle time and ending with a yarning circle to discuss and celebrate the day's learning. Students are supported in developing strategies to self-regulate, provided brain breaks in learning sessions, and soft landings when entering the classroom after recess and lunchtime play.
The school uses an instructional model that incorporates explicit direct instruction with gradual release of responsibility. This means that during learning sessions, the teacher explicitly teaches new skills and knowledge and checks that the students are understanding this instruction. Over a sequence of learning, the students are gradually released to work with less and less support from the teacher until they demonstrate the ability to use the new skills and knowledge independently.
At Churchill North Primary School, we strive to ensure that we cater for the needs of all students. We aim to build resilience and an ability to bounce back from setbacks, to respect each other and the environment, to build a sense of inclusivity where all are welcomed and acknowledged, and an aspirational mindset that embraces challenge and personal development.
